New Pixar Movies: Dinosaurs, Death, and Docter

Pixar made a flurry of upcoming movie announcements including a title for a June 2014 release: The Good Dinosaur (directed by Bob Peterson).

Lee Unkrich, director of Toy Story 3, also announced he'll be working on a Pixar movie about the Mexican Day of the Dead (Dia De Los Muertos).

In addition, Pete Docter's "Untitled Pixar Movie That Takes You Inside the Mind" is scheduled for a June 2015 release (Docter directed Monsters, Inc. and Up). Another upcoming Pixar movie, Monsters University, is due out June 2013 and is a prequel to Monsters, Inc.

The Good Dinosaur doesn't grab me at all as a title. I predict Pixar will change the title before the film is released, like they did with The Bear and the Bow, which is now titled Brave.

Unkrich's project sounds the most interesting. It strikes me as a Tim Burton movie. To paraphrase Syndrome of The Incredibles, "That sounds a little dark for you, Pixar." Will Pixar ever venture into PG-13 territory? When I heard the announcement about Dia De Los Muertos (not the official title), I was reminded of the 1998 LucasArts video game Grim Fandango.

Which one of these upcoming Pixar projects has you most interested?

  1. Hard to say, I love Bob Peterson, and dinosaurs, so The Good Dinosaur will almost certainly be fantastic! But Pete and Lee's films both sound so different and interesting.

Meh, I'm excited for them all.
